EVERYBODY can and must make a difference!

It is not a secret that I strongly believe that all of us individually have a role to play when it comes to solving the big societal issues we are facing. We cannot simply rely on the governments, non-profits and global funders to tackle such pressing challenges as providing better access and delivery of education and health services.
Clearly, companies have a role to play. Given that just about half of the largest economies in the world are multinationals they have key contributions to make to improve the state of the world. But that is not enough – we all have to demonstrate a sense of urgency and start contributing our time and skills to those that are less fortunate. That can be in your own neighborhood where you support kids that need guidance, encouragement, or motivation - just become something like a role model they can aspire to.  You can be that “somebody” that takes them by the hand and helps them to get a high school degree or get a first job.
And if you cannot make a local commitment due to a busy travel schedule you can become an online mentor or coach to kids that need your help.   We are experimenting right now with e-mentoring programs for our HP LIFE e-learning platform which is a cloud based entrepreneurship training course that  teaches how to use IT to do a business plan, to do a marketing plan, to setup your website etc. Check it out at www.life-global.org …so we are looking for ways to get our highly skilled employees to help mentor some of the entrepreneurs as they build out their businesses.
Online or offline, we all have a role to play.
